THE westbound carriageway between junctions 11 and nine of the M27 are due to close this weekend.

National Highways have announced the closure of the westbound carriageway between junctions 11 and nine from 9pm on Friday (today) until 6am on Monday.

Essential maintenance work will be carried out, with workers reinstating manholes in the carriageway, resurfacing, carrying out surveys of the drainage network, white lining and installation of the studs that sit between the lanes.

In a statement National Highways said: "We’re unable to complete these activities during a standard overnight closure, and as a result a full weekend closure is required. During this time, we’ll take the opportunity to undertake as many additional activities as possible.

"During the closure, a signed diversion will be in place via the A27.

"We’ll also be continuing with surfacing work during January. We carry out this work overnight or at weekends to try and minimise the impact on road users.

"We complete this work in sections, and the details of January’s closures are listed below. All closures will be from 9pm until 6am the following morning."
