The journey of a teenager, who studied in Winchester, to be the youngest woman ever to fly around the world solo will be finished next week.

Zara Rutherford, 19, started her journey on August 18 at Kortrijk, Belgium, and plans to arrive there again on Monday.

The former St Swithun's School student has had a total of 60 days of delays up to January 10.

After flying across Saudi Arabia, Zara posted on her journey's Facebook page, FlyZolo: “Had one of the most amazing flights yesterday across Saudi Arabia from Riyadh to Tabuk.

“Terrain changed a lot throughout, from dunes to rocks and villages/cities. Flying was also really nice as there are usually no clouds whatsoever and it was extremely smooth (in the morning). Plenty of camels as well!”

Zara arrived back in Europe, for the first time since August 19, on January 9 in Heraklion, Greece.

Next, she will travel to Czech Republic and Germany, before arriving back in Belgium.

When Zara completes the journey, she will break the world record for the young woman to fly around the world solo.

The current female record holder is American Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 at the time of her circumnavigation in 2017.
