Over three quarters of adults in Winchester have received a Covid booster vaccine, according to the latest government figures.

The data shows that 75,003 people who live in the Winchester area and are over 18 have received the booster.

This is an increase from December 20, when 65,685 people had received it.

This comes as the number of cases of the Omicron variant reached 782, according to the latest government figures, published on December 23.

The latest available figure for patients is 47 in local hospitals, up from 39 on Christmas Eve and 46 on December 16.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) has said there are 25 Covid patients in Basingstoke, 32 at the RHCH and none in Andover compared to 19, 23 and two at Christmas.

Concerns nationally about NHS staffing are not being seen locally with staff sickness on December 23 the hospital trust at six per cent compared to 5.5 per cent in the previous week.

Two deaths have been reported in the district over Christmas bringing the death toll to 186 since March 2020.

The latest figures show 97,640 people had received both jabs by January 5 – 82% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 83% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
