A WINCHESTER road will be closed for over three months to allow for a new footway to be built.

Wellhouse Lane, in Headbourne Worthy, will be closed for 14 weeks from January 10 as part of plans to build the footway under the rail bridge.

The work is being carried out by developer Cala Homes, the company behind the nearby major new estate of Kings Barton.

The work is scheduled to end on Friday April 15, with Hampshire County Council saying the road closure is necessary to allow the footway to be constructed safely.

Access to property will be maintained throughout the works and the diversion route will be well signposted.

A council notice said: “The road under the rail bridge will be closed for 14 weeks from Monday 10 January 2022 to Friday 15 April 2022.

“Closing the road is necessary for the developer to be able to carry out the works under the bridge safely and as quickly as possible to minimise the overall disruption to residents and businesses.”

The notice added that access to Cobbs Farm shop will remain unaffected from the eastern approach. The diversion route for the Wellhouse Lane closure will be well sign posted, and customers will be able to access the shop from Andover Road, Worthy Lane/Worthy Road/London Road and Bedfield Lane.
