A WINCHESTER primary school has thought of an unusual way to raise money for charity with a Christmas theme, writes Toby Oliver.

The children and families of Stanmore Primary School have been thinking of others this Christmas time in the form of a reverse advent calendar.

Each day, rather than receiving, the children have generously donated a specific item of food from baked beans to tomato ketchup.

They have been donating to the Winchester Basics Bank. The purpose of the food bank is to provide an emergency food and clothing service for people who are facing difficulty following an unexpected event in their lives.

Food is donated by churches, schools and directly from local residents via the collection points in Sainsbury’s Badger Farm and the town centre store, Waitrose Stockbridge Road, Tesco in Winnall and the Co-op in Alresford.
