A HAMPSHIRE company has been slapped with a bill of nearly £300,000 after failing to pay the correct amount of tax.

Hall Brickwork Limited has been branded a deliberate tax defaulter by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The business, formerly of 65 Provene Gardens and 5 Andrewes Close in Bishops Waltham, has been given a penalty of £276,711.40.

The total amount of tax on which the penalty is based was £608,157.

According to the HMRC list, the period of default was October 1 2016, to June 30 2020.

The Chronicle's sister paper the Daily Echo has been unable to contact the business, which does not appear to be registered on Companies House.

A deliberate tax defaulter is someone judged to have deliberately failed to comply with their tax obligations or who have made deliberate errors in their tax returns.

HMRC has stressed that each entry on the list is specific to the default dates referred to.

Meanwhile, the address is the one associated with the person at the time of the default.

It warns that the published person may have changed their behaviour and may no longer be at the published address.
