THE McCarthy Stone Foundation has provided a welcomed boost ahead of the Christmas period for local charity the Romsey Good Neighbours.

The charity provides private transport for the elderly and disabled who find it difficult to travel on their own within the Romsey, Braishfield and Ampfield areas.

A team of volunteers use their own cars to transport locals to and from their medical appointments such as hospitals, doctor’s surgeries, dentists, chiropractors, or any other health practice.

In a bid to make Christmas a little brighter this year, the McCarthy Stone Foundation has given Romsey Good Neighbours a £250 donation, which will enable the team to say “thank you” to all of its volunteer drivers and co-ordinators by organising a social get together in the new year.

Patti Cunningham, treasurer and trustee at Romsey Good Neighbours said: “All our volunteers go above and beyond to help those who have mobility problems, which has been particularly important recently with the ongoing effects of Covid-19. We’re thrilled to receive the grant from the McCarthy Stone Foundation so we can say thank you to our team who have been a huge support to the local community.”

The McCarthy Stone Foundation is the independent, registered charity of the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, which has a development coming soon to Romsey on Botley Road. It aims to build long-term partnerships with charities and organisations who support the wellbeing of older people, the educational needs of young people and the urban regeneration of communities by providing much-needed financial grants, volunteers, and other resources.

Graeme Marsh, foundation manager at the McCarthy Stone Foundation said: “Romsey Good Neighbours is such a wonderful charity, and the dedicated team of volunteers work so hard to help the local community, week after week. We are delighted to show our support to its cause, and we look forward to working in partnership for many years to come.”
