PUPILS of Winchester College said farewell to a housemaster in an unusual fashion.

The school's cadet force paraded down Kingsgate Street in his honour including to the skirl of the bagpipes.

Sam Hart is a boarding housemaster at Winchester College and has been a resident of the city with his wife, Lucy and their two daughters for more than 10 years.

On Friday he left the school to become headmaster of Giggleswick School in Yorkshire.

With a previous career in the army, he has been in charge of the College’s Combined Cadet Force for many years, spearheading partnerships with local schools, most recently Andover College.

The CCF gave him a special send-off with a parade down Kingsgate Street, lined with pupils, staff and bagpipes.
