AS we step into December and welcome the festive spirit, shops along the High Street are on the hunt for their own Santa's helpers.
This time of year is especially busy for shops all over the country, with retail figures showing that in 2021, retail sales during the Christmas period is expected to increase to £84.7 billion, compared to 2020's coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions, which saw Christmas sales drop to a value of £79.7 billion, shown by Statista.
Winchester is full of trendy shops on the High Street and a large percentage are looking for extra staff this Christmas.
Winchester County Councillor Martin Tod said: "The Council, Business Improvement District and local businesses have been working incredibly hard to get things going again following the darkest days of the pandemic - and this is a real tribute to those efforts. There does need to be an action plan to tackle our skills shortages - but that's a better problem to have than dealing with a lack of jobs for people who want to work but can't find anything to take on."
Speaking on job opportunities on the High Street, a Starbucks spokesperson said: "We are pleased to be offering job opportunities at our Winchester High Street store to support the local community and enhance the unique Starbucks Experience® for our partners (employees) and customers during the busy festive period – and beyond. Currently, our store is recruiting for three full-time, flexible Baristas and would welcome all applications to join our warm and welcoming team."
