A WINCHESTER theatre has chosen its spring production and is holding auditions next month.

Chesil Theatre has chosen a bittersweet comedy If I Were You, written in 2006, by Alan Ayckbourn who is the most performed playwright in the country after Shakespeare.

A reading will be held on December 3 followed by auditions for the five characters on December 5 and December 6, all at 7.45pm.

After 30 years Jill and Mal Rodale’s marriage is not in good shape. Their daughter, Chrissie married to Dean, Mal’s colleague at the furniture store has recently had a baby, making them grandparents.

Their sensitive and creative teenage son is at odds with his father. They need to talk but no-one appears to listen or take any advice.

One night something wholly mystifying happens and Ayckbourn explores what would happen if Jill and Mal could see what life is like from the other’s point of view.

Auditions are open and new members are always welcome.

Director Marina Humphrey said: “This play presents an original and exciting challenge especially the for two actors playing Mal and Jill leading to many funny, often awkward and revealing scenarios.”
