A TRAFFIC light in Winchester city centre was damaged when it was struck by a bus.

The light at the junction of St George's Street and Upper Brook Street was knocked last Friday and is still awaiting repair.

Eye-witnesses said the light was hit by a Stagecoach bus on St George's Street. Although knocked askew the light was still working.

Stagecoach and the county council have been asked to comment.

Today (Wednesday) contractors started the task of repairing the light, first removing the damaged pole.

Stagecoach and the county council have failed to respond to the Chronicle enquiries.
