A HEAVY goods vehicle has moved on after yesterday blocking much of a car park at a beauty spot near Winchester.

The articulated lorry was parked up at the car park next to St Catherine's Hill, off Garnier Road, next to the Itchen Navigation.

The vehicle was blocking around six spaces at the car park that is usually packed at the weekends. It appeared that the driver had been sleeping in his cab overnight.

The photographer, who asked not to be named, said: "Surely this shouldn’t be parked here!"

It was unclear if the driver of the German-registered lorry would be receiving a parking ticket from the city council's wardens.

It was not going anywhere soon as it is currently blocked in by parked cars.

The haulage company is Jantschitsch with a motto on the side of the truck: "We keep Great Britain Moving".

The company website says: "More than 20 years experience in logistics and forwarding as well as a modern fleet of more than 100 vehicles are available for our customers - all fitted with state-of-the-art "Walking Floor" technology for fast and easy loading and unloading of all kinds of goods."

The Chronicle has asked the company to explain why one of its trucks is parked in the St Catherines Hill car park.

The city council has also been asked why the height restriction bar that used to stop over-size vehicles has been removed.

The vehicle had gone by 8am this Monday morning.
