A WOMAN has been made subject of a restraining order after she threatened her ex-boyfriend with a knife.

Hannah Dowding, 29, attended the home of her then partner Matthew Scofield, in Pigeonhouse Yard, Sutton Scotney, where she threatened him with a knife and rammed a car into him, causing minor injuries.

Last week a jury deemed that she committed three offences of threatening with a knife, damaging property and dangerous driving.

Dowding was not present at the hearing after she was deemed unfit to stand trial, as a result the jury were asked to determine what happened rather than her guilt. She was acquitted of one count of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm.

On Thursday, Dowding, of Augustine Way, Andover, appeared via video link to be sentenced for the three charges which all relate to a “skirmish” on April 28.

The incident occurred after Dowding believed that Mr Scofield had been unfaithful to her. Following threatening messages, saying that she would harm him, she attended his home.

The judge, Mr Recorder C Langley said that the incident had a “damaging effect” on Mr Scofield, adding: “He no doubt would have been extremely concerned about his safety and his father’s safety that night but he in the last paragraph [of his victim impact statement] shows some empathy for Ms Dowding which shows the type of character that he is.”

The court was told that Dowding has mental health issues.

The judge said that Dowding is getting help from a community mental health team.

The only possible outcome for the case was an absolute discharge, but she was made subject of a restraining order for 10 years.
