A WINCHESTER vet has been selected as a new parliamentary candidate for the city.

Danny Chambers will represent the Liberal Democrats in Winchester and has been given the support of the party's leader.

Danny works is a veterinary surgeon for Equicall and sits on the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the regulatory body for the UK veterinary profession.

He campaigns nationally on animal welfare and mental health issues, and is a trustee of a mental health charity.

His campaign priorities include: supporting local businesses and famers; tackling climate change; and protecting local NHS services.

Danny said: “I am honoured to have been selected as the Lib Dem MP candidate for Winchester. My priority is to listen to local people, and campaign on the issues that matter to them.

“I will be on the side of local businesses and farmers, who are struggling to find enough staff and face increased costs due to the pandemic and our ability to trade with Europe.

“People rightly want to protect their local NHS services in Winchester. I will use my campaign experience, having led national campaigns on mental health and animal welfare, to ensure local people are heard on this issue.

“Voters in Winchester are determined that the government should no longer ignore the biggest threat to our planet - climate change.

“I will strive to earn the trust of the people of Winchester and prove to them that there is a positive liberal alternative for Winchester. The work starts now.”

Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey MP, said: “Danny is a local vet and will be a fantastic local candidate who is committed to listening and helping the people of Winchester.”
