Convicted sex offender John Maunder was serving his sentence at Winchester Prison
A SOUTHAMPTON man has been given a suspended jail sentence for attacking a prison officer.
Leon Sherwood, 20, of Hinkler Road, Thornhill, admitted attacking prison officer Callum Hawksey in Winchester Prison on February 23.
Magistrates in Basingstoke said it was an unprovoked and sustained attack on a public servant.
Magistrates sentenced Sherwood to 16 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to do 60 hours unpaid work and pay £150 compensation.
There was no order for costs because of a lack of means and compensation was a priority.
