SIR: Today I walked around Winchester city centre and counted and photographed 24 empty shop units.
I also read recently that retail sales nationally have fallen considerably. Why then do new developments like Saxongate (Silver Hill) continue with the very 20th century idea of having masses of new retail space? Winchester doesn’t need it.
Much better to keep the old city centre shops occupied.
