SIR: As summer draws to a close, residents of the Meon Valley were once again reminded this weekend of the noise pollution caused by motorbikes with modified exhaust pipes and inconsiderate riding styles. I am sorry to have to bring this issue to the attention of your readers again but it has been allowed to continue for too long.

A comprehensive and holistic approach is needed, which discourages the small minority of motorcyclists who behave in this way from coming to our area. We have heard some good proposals including from the PCC to look into additional speed enforcement vehicles but we now need action.

As we enter the traditionally quieter winter season, I call on all stakeholders to work together to deliver that approach in a joined up, cohesive way. In particular, I would like to see our MPs continue to press for legislative change, the police committing the resources necessary to deter the anti-social minority and Hampshire County Council committing to sufficient measures to improve road safety.

Most of all, I call on Winchester City Council and East Hants District Council to take the lead in introducing noise monitoring acoustic cameras onto our road network.
