ORGANISERS at Winchester junior parkrun celebrated staging their 200th event in style with fancy dress, balloons and support from the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Vivian Achwal.

The free, weekly, timed 2km event takes place at North Walls Recreation Ground every Sunday at 9am and is for children aged four to 14 years. It has followed the success of the adult version held on Saturdays.

Run director Rob Porter welcomed the Mayor and thanked the volunteers who make the event possible, before leading the children in a fun warm up.

The event was started by a fanfare from the Mayor, who had brought her trumpet with her for the occasion.

As a run, not a race, children are encouraged to run, walk, jump or skip their way around the course, hopefully with a smile on their faces.

One of the volunteers always acts as the “tail walker” (complete with clip-on crocodile tail) meaning it’s impossible to come last. Adults can register their children and get more information at: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/winchester-juniors.
