BTEC qualifications and promotions for cadets after first presentation in over 18 months.

1391 (Romsey) Squadron Air Training Corps held its annual presentation evening On Friday October 15.

This was the first chance the Squadron has had to bring cadets parents and guests together since the lifting lockdown restrictions.

With over fifty certificates and trophies to present it was a busy evening for the guest of honour, Squadron Leader Graeme Hughes the Wing Executive Officer for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Wing ATC.

The evening commenced with presentations of internal cadet qualifications in subjects such as map and compass, airframes, jet engines and rocketry.

Five cadets who completed all the ATC’s aviation training syllabus were awarded a BTEC level two in Aviation Studies.

Flight Sergeant David Bradbury and Flight Sergeant Noah Whalvin were presented with their silver Duke of Edinburgh award whilst Corporal Daniel Hodge received his bronze award badge.

During the summer fifteen cadets completed the British Canoe Union Paddle Start course and were awarded their certificates.

Seven cadets were promoted during the evening with cadets, George Colwill, Daniel Hodge, Nathan Lewis and Toby Sherrington promoted to Corporal, James Cox and Isabeau Hockey to Sergeant and David Bradbury to Flight Sergeant.

The Squadron then presented the main awards for the evening.

The Flyer award for academic achievement was presented to Corporal George Colwill by the Wing Chairman, retired Wing Commander Tony Clavel. The Baily Sports shields were given to Flight Sergeant Noah Whalvin and Sergeant Isabeau Hockey for their efforts on the sports field. Mr Bob Sankey the Squadrons Secretary then presented the Bob Sankey Cup to Flight Sergeant Cameron Seabrook for his quick thinking and actions during a first aid incident this summer.

Cadet Mihai Gheorghe was awarded the best recruit trophy for his efforts since joining the Squadron the night before lockdown and since the return to face-to-face training. Finally, Sergeant Hockey was presented with the Cadet of the Year Award for her efforts.
