A PRIMARY school near Winchester has taken part in an initiative to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by planting a tree.
Stanmore Primary School planted the tree on October 5 as part of the The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC).
The QGC is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people across the United Kingdom to plant a tree for the Jubilee.
The QGC is gifting 70 celebration trees to selected primary schools in 69 cities across the UK.
The event was supported by the Mayor Cllr Vivian Achwal, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and Stanmore Primary School eco council.
Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson said: “I am so pleased and proud to be able to gift this tree on behalf of HM The Queen.
“Next year, Her Majesty will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.
“The Queen’s Green Canopy will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the nation, which will benefit future generations.”
