SIR: I am writing to express my disappointment that the campaign to improve the safety of the junction of the B3047 and Mill Lane/Park Lane in Abbots Worthy has not persuaded Hampshire County Council to take any action.

The speed limit along the B3047 through the village is currently 40mph, in contrast to the other villages in the Itchen Valley where it is 30mph.

There was recently a collision involving a car exiting Park Lane and Range Rover travelling along the B3047. The Land Rover flipped and smashed into a house in Mill Lane causing extensive damage to both the building and the vehicle parked in the driveway”. The house is still being repaired nearly a year after the collision. It was a miracle that no one was killed. A report from HCC officials stated that the car that flipped was not speeding. If correct this only goes to prove that 40mph is too fast. There have been several other accidents at this junction.

Councillor Humby personally needs to take a look at the junction before deciding that a lack of fatalities warrants that no action is necessary.
