Strong winds and rain are set to batter Hampshire this afternoon.

The Met Office have issued a weather warning and said there could be disruption to travel as a result.

The warning is in place until 10pm tonight.

A spokesperson said: "Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

"Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

"It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

"Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer."

The chief forecaster said: "An area of low pressure will affect southern England today, bringing a spell of heavy rain and strong winds.

"This will bring as much as 30-40 mm of rain falling in 3-6 hours in some parts of south and south-east England.

"An additional hazard will be the spell of strong southerly winds. These will develop later this afternoon and through the evening across some southern and southeastern parts of England.

"Gusts are likely to reach 40-50 mph inland with 50-60 mph possible along exposed coasts, with a particular focus along the English Channel coast to the east of Worthing."
