COVID numbers are again on the increase with three new hotspots emerging in the Winchester district.

There were also sharp increases in recent days in parts of Winchester city.

In recent weeks the numbers had been fluctuating in places but were fairly stable overall but are now on the rise in most parts of the city district which stretches from Micheldever to close to Portsmouth including the Meon Valley.

The current hotspots are Colden Common and Twyford with 42 cases reported in the seven days to September 24, up 21, or 100 per cent, for a rolling figure per 100,000 of 438.0. In South Wonston, Sutton Scotney and Micheldever the numbers are 24, 12, (100 per cent), 405.4; and Denmead and Southwick, 49, up nine (22 per cent), 463.3.

These three areas are shaded maroon on the Government map because their rolling numbers are higher than 400 per 100,000 people, below.

The number of deaths in the Winchester district since the start of the pandemic is still at 180, the 19th day with no change. It had been on 179 since March.

As of today Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was caring for 34 Covid patients: 23 at Basingstoke, 11 at RHCH and none at Andover. That is up on the figure of 31 from last week when there were seven at the Winchester hospital.

The number of Winchester University students with Covid is at 16 down from the highest recent figure of 20, the highest number in months, but with only three of those on campus before testing positive.

Since the start of this term schools no longer have to report cases to Hampshire County Council so those figures are no longer available publicly.
