Open space threatened by development at Sir John Moore Barracks near Winchester
SIR: The new nature reserve initiative is to be applauded. With pure green-field land under continuous risk from developers and associated building contractors, preserving Winchester and surrounds natural environment is an admirable mission (Chronicle, September 16).
Thousands of new houses require infrastructure, drainage, and more cars will damage the air quality.
Let us hope this nature reserve proposal will receive the go-ahead as it is desperately needed now and for future generations.
