HERITAGE Open Days continue this weekend with more free talks, trails, behind-the-scenes tours, exhibitions and open days, both in person and online. Although a few events, including the ever popular Winchester College tours, are fully booked, there are still plenty to choose from, many of which you can just turn up to on the day. Festival organisers, Nicky Gottlieb and Becky Brown, said “It’s wonderful that these are in such demand but, equally, we know how disappointing it can be to miss out on certain events, so we always encourage people to join our mailing list. That way you get to know about all our latest news and events, as well as priority booking.”

This year’s theme is ‘Edible England’ to celebrate the nation’s culinary heritage. Families are invited to follow the High Street trail and enter the competition draw to be in with a chance to win Montezuma’s chocolates. Look out for the gnomes hiding in some participating shop windows and enter online via the festival website. Other events include an open day and special allotment tours by Winchester & District Allotment Holders Society, the Whitchurch Silk Mill Food Festival, a ‘Winchester Deserves...Cake’ exhibition of works by internationally renowned artist, David Ferry, at Inn the Park, and poetry readings by Winchester Muse in the medieval church of St Lawrence-in-the-Square. There are online contributions from Bombay Sapphire and Rick Stein Cookery School, plus an Edible England exhibition and several Hampshire HistBites podcasts.

Nicky and Becky added “As always, we are particularly grateful to our lead sponsor, Winchester College and would also like to thank Winchester BID, Hampshire County Council, University of Winchester and all event organisers, businesses and volunteers for their continued support.”
