A SHOW based on a classic BBC sitcom is coming to the Theatre Royal Winchester at the end of September.

Dad's Army Radio Show will be performed on September 28 and will feature three episodes of the hugely popular radio series, newly adapted for the stage.

The show, based on the Croft and Perry classic from the 1960s and 70s, will be performed by just two actors who will play 25 characters.

David Benson (Goodnight Sweetheart and One Man, Two Guvnors) and Jack Lane (Wisdom of a Fool and 7 Days) will play a wide range of familiar stars of the show from the pompous leader of Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard, Captain Mainwaring, to the youngest member of the platoon, Private Pike.

Benson and Lane will transport the audience right back to Walmington to enjoy the original scripts – complete with sound effects, vintage music and all of Perry and Croft’s beloved characters and catchphrases.

Among the TV stars were Arthur Lowe (Mainwaring), John Le Mesurier (Sgt Wilson), Clive Dunn (Cpl Jones), Ian Lavender (Pike), John Laurie (Frasier) and Arnold Ridley (Godfrey).

Dad’s Army Radio Show will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on September 28. Tickets are available from theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840440.
