FIREFIGHTERS were called to two incidents of grain silos alight in the Winchester district over the bank holiday weekend.

Crews were called to a farm in Bighton, near Alresford, after a fire in a silo containing around 30 tonnes of grain.

Firefighters from Droxford, Eastleigh, Alton, Portchester and Basingstoke attended the scene in Malthouse Lane following the call at 7.21pm.

A hose reel and main jets were set up to allow grain to be moved from the silo and crews returned to their stations at 10.01pm.

The incident was handed over to the farmer before crews left.

The second incident occurred on a farm in Owslebury on Bank Holiday Monday at 8.22am.

Crews were called after a fire broke out in a silo containing around 200 tonnes of grain.

Firefighters from Winchester, Bishops Waltham, Alresford and Eastleigh attended the scene.

Two hose reels and two main jets were used to extinguish the fire and crews returned to their stations at 9.31am.
