SIR: Firstly, I’d like to take issue with part of the cathedral’s statement which was released to the Chronicle before I spoke to the Dean about the incident with the clergyman in The Square on August 12 (Chronicle, August 19). The statement says “We understand the clergyman spoke to Mr. Naylor not in order to ask him to stop playing but to move his pitch slightly to one side". This, I emphasised to the Dean, is incorrect. The clergyman did NOT ask me to move to one side. He asked me to leave. Otherwise, I would have not said that I’d played in the spot for years and this is how I earn my money, to which he replied ‘I don’t care, I want you to leave now.’ This is a key point, as asking someone to ‘move aside’ and asking them to ‘leave’ are two very different things. After I spoke to the Dean about this point, she agreed that my account was the more realistic and believable.
Secondly, and on a lighter note, I’d like to thank Paul Hickey for his compliments about my guitar playing and picking up on the wide range of styles I feature in my repertoire. Also, he suggests I ‘have a go’ at writing my own songs. I’ve actually released six solo albums of my own music and my song Little Speck Of Blue was voted top song on couple of indie charts a few years ago. I’m currently finishing the first album, Like A Delicate Psychedelicat, I’m making with the singer/songwriter Rebsie Fairholm from Cheltenham. We go by the name Psychedelicat. If Paul’s interested, he can find my music at; marvinbnaylormusic.bandcamp.com.
