A WINCHESTER man has today appeared in court following a 32-hour standoff at a flat in Winchester.

Police charged a 60-year-old man following a public order incident at Mountbatten Court, off Andover Road, in Weeke on Wednesday and Thursday August 25-26.

Officers had been called at 2.45pm on Wednesday and were threatened with a weapon on arrival. The police negotiated with the man but forced entry at 10pm on Thursday.

Richard Peter Kempson, of Andover Road, Winchester, has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Kempson appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday August 28) where he was remanded into custody.

He will next appear at Winchester Crown Court on September 29.
