A SOLICITOR who has represented victims of the Westminster terror attack and 60 victims of Jimmy Savile has become the first black senior partner at a top 100 law firm.

Trevor Sterling has been elected senior partner at Southampton-based law firm Moore Barlow.

He is a personal injury lawyer with more than 37 years’ experience, specialising in personal injury claims including brain, spinal and serious trauma injuries.

He joined Moore Blatch in 2015, before it merged with Barlow Robbins to create Moore Barlow.

He represented victims of the Westminster attack in 2017 and the Croydon tram crash in 2016. Before joining the firm, he acted for more than 60 victims of sex predator Sir Jimmy Savile, reporting on the Pollard Review and Operation Yewtree investigations.

Mr Sterling said: “Moore Barlow is an incredible firm with incredible people, and it’s an honour to have been elected as the firm’s first senior partner since merger.

“In my new role, I will work closely with the partnership as we build a resilient, sustainable and diverse business, and will act as the voice of our people to ensure we continue to build a great place to work and inspire our teams to deliver excellence and passionate support for clients.”

He is also a diversity campaigner who helped establish the Mary Seacole Trust – a charity that works to promote equality in public and private service – and has been its chair since 2016.

Mr Sterling is based in Southampton but splits his time with work in London and the company’s offices in Lymington, Richmond and Guildford.

The firm has also promoted Mandy Spring and Victoria Jones to its 71-strong partnership team.

Mandy Spring has more than 23 years’ experience and advises clients at the start and end of relationships. She is a member of Resolution, a network of 6,500 family lawyers that promotes non-confrontational approaches to dispute resolution.

Victoria Jones is a clinical negligence specialist, focusing on misdiagnosis and surgical errors with particular expertise in neurological and spinal injuries. Throughout her career she has settled claims worth millions to those affected and earlier this year was named one of the Legal 500’s Rising Stars.

Ed Whittington, managing partner at Moore Barlow, said: “Trevor’s appointment is testament to our people-first approach that sits at the heart of Moore Barlow. Together, the executive leadership team embodies our commitment to diversity and inclusion right across the firm.

“We have huge ambitions for our business and having such passionate, talented and driven people in key positions is essential to realising our goals, whilst continuing to deliver the highest quality and level of service to our clients.”
