A MAN arrested after a serious attack on three men in Winchester city centre has been released.

The men were assaulted by a man in Silver Hill early on Sunday after a dispute in a bar earlier in the evening.

Follow the attack a 40-year-old man from Winchester was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released on bail.

In a statement Hampshire Police said: "Officers were called out at 3am this morning (25 July) to reports of a number of serious assaults on Middle Brook Street in Winchester.

"Four men were involved in an earlier altercation within a bar on Upper Brook Street, with three men seen to be leaving the bar and heading along Silver Hill. They have then been attacked by the unknown man with whom they’d had an altercation with that evening.

"The three men all suffered minor injuries but were taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident and is in no way linked to terror-activity. There is no wider risk to the local community at this time."
