Year 7 students at Romsey School have delved into the wonderful art of money management this week.

As part of the My Money Week activities, maths lessons have diverted some time to discuss the important aspect of managing money on a budget.

Lessons included deciding whether a product you buy was wanted or needed and what different things people might need at various stages in life.

Insurance was another topic for the table and what insurance is required by law such as car insurance, whether a type of insurance was optional and if so, how to evaluate when insurance would be a worthwhile payment.

Pupils also learned about different types of bank accounts and the difference between a standing order and a direct debit.

Student feedback was that the lessons were really helpful, particularly for those wanting to save their money.

Maths Teacher, Mrs Redmill said: “The students really enjoyed the lessons and gained a valuable insight into the world of personal finances”.

Year 10 students will have their turn next and will be learning about taxes on income and about budgeting including calculating household bills and mortgage payments.

The Romsey School is accredited and nationally recognised as a Centre of Excellence for financial education, showing the school is committed to embedding crucial life skills.
