COMPTON and Shawford Festival Choir will finally celebrate its 100th birthday this year with a performance of the Verdi Requiem, at the fifth time of asking.

They will perform the concert at Winchester Cathedral as the venue on Saturday July 31 at 7.30pm.

It is the oldest choir still running in the Winchester area.

Conductor John Sutton said: "It has taken five attempts during this pandemic year and a half to perform this wonderful work and we are thrilled that it is at last going to be!"

The most recent attempt was June 11.

Soprano is Helen Bailey; Mezzo Soprano: Catherine Carby; Tenor: Alexander James Edwards and Baritone: Felix Kemp.

Tickets range between £15 and £25, with a £1.25 booking fee per person. Full time students are entitled to a half price concession.
