POLICE are hunting a vandal seen wearing chequered trousers who attacked several cars in central Winchester.

The man was seen "punching, kicking and standing" on the roof and bonnet of several cars on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: "We were called to North Walls at 2am to reports of a man punching, kicking and standing on cars. We sent officers to the scene, who found four cars damaged in the nearby area.

No arrests have yet been made.

The cars were:

* A grey Mini Cooper in St Peter Street with a broken wing mirror on the driver’s door;

* A white Fiat Punto in Parchment Street with a smashed front windscreen;

* A red Citroen C1 in Parchment Street with a missing wing mirror on the driver’s door;

* A grey Mini Countryman in Parchment Street with a smashed front windscreen.

Police are looking for witnesses or anyone who has CCTV of doorbell cameras in the area.

The spokesman added: "We would also like to speak to a white man wearing a black top with dark chequered trousers who was in the area at the time the incident occurred."
