THE Westgate School, Winchester, has been awarded the Sportsmark Award.
It is the secondary school in Winchester to achieve this prestigious kitemark.
The award is based upon results that are collated in a National Physical Education School Sports survey completed over the whole country. The results reflect the high quality of physical education within a school both in and out of curriculum time.
Spokesman Peter Hurley said: "The Westgate School realises the importance of providing their pupils with a high quality physical education programme and is committed to ensure that all pupils receive two hours of physical education in curriculum time in all years 7-11. Along with educating the pupils about leading an, active and healthy lifestyle, Westgate provides all the necessary experiences for their pupils to continue sport out of school.
"With a wide range of extra curricular activities on offer, ensures that sport is made accessible to all. An impressive 28 different sports are made available to the pupils over their five years at Westgate. Many of these sports have teams, clubs and individuals that perform to a high level both locally and nationally."
