AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a cyclist who died after a collision near Winchester last month.
David Davenport was riding a pedal cycle along Woodman Lane, Sparsholt, on June 8 when he was involved in a collision with a blue Mini Cooper at the crossroads with Sarum Road.
Mr Davenport, 59, of Archers Road in Eastleigh, was taken to Southampton General Hospital but died on June 16 as a result of his injuries.
An inquest was opened into his death by area coroner Jason Pegg at Winchester Coroner’s Court.
Mr Pegg said: “Mr Davenport was out on a bike ride with his friend when a collision occurred at Woodman Lane and Sarum Road.”
Mr Davenport suffered “fatal injuries” and was admitted to Southampton General Hospital.
A post-mortem was carried out and a cause of death has been given as traumatic brain injury as a result of a road traffic collision.
Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing, and a full inquest will take place on March 10, next year.
