A MAN'S face was left in need of reconstructive surgery after a stranger assaulted him in Winchester.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident in Market Lane between 10am and 11am, back on Thursday June 10.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, left the Boots Pharmacy by the rear entrance and was walking along Market Lane when he was assaulted by an unknown person.

He woke in hospital, having sustained serious facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery.

The incident was only reported to Hampshire Constabulary on Wednesday July 7.

Detective Constable Iain Howard said: “Somebody must know what happened to this man. We appreciate this took place a month ago, but we would like people to cast their minds back to the morning of Thursday June 10.

“Were you in Winchester city centre that morning? Did you see a man being assaulted?

“It was reported that a member of the public found the injured man and called for an ambulance. Was this you? You may have information that could help our investigation.”
