PROPOSALS to remove two Willow trees in a city conservation area have been given the go-ahead.

Carlisle City Council has approved plans for their felling last week on land south of the White Bridge, The Green, Dalston.

In a letter to the council from Corby Hill based tree firm, R&M Lowther stated: "We request for works in the Dalston conservation area.

"We would like to remove the trees from the banks of the River Caldew"

One of the reasons for the felling of one Willow tree was that it had "lost limbs in the past and is leaning out over the river".

The reason given for the other was "poor form".
