SIR: The words offered by the female spokesperson “We can’t imagine another summer without celebrating with our local community etc" are, to put it frankly, patronising and inaccurate.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that this event is a self-serving commercial enterprise benefitting only those who organise and are invested in the event.

Let me assure the Boomtown spokesperson that the surrounding communities are not “gagging” for the uninterrupted continuation of this frivolous festival which causes days of disruption to local travel infrastructure; attended by unacceptable environmental noise levels and criminal and unsociable behaviour.

Mike Ellis,

Bishop’s Sutton
