SIR: The fact a section of the A33 was closed for an unauthorised horse and trap racing event by travellers, demonstrates a clear breach of the law (Chronicle, May 6).
The amount of litter strewn around the area is inexcusable and disgusting. The offenders should have been detained in the area and ordered to clear up their mess.
An unauthorised event should not be allowed to take place and will be a precedent for such events in the future.
The police officers at the scene will have been advised from above to take no action against this illegal gathering, other than closing a section of the A33, causing unnecessary inconvenience to law-abiding people.
Indeed, our roads are not race-tracks.
