A MAN was arrested after he abused staff and refused to leave a Covid testing centre in Winchester.

Police were called at 1.38pm yesterday (Monday) to reports of a public order incident at the Discovery Centre, in Jewry Street.

It was reported that a man had refused to leave the testing centre and was abusive towards staff.

On arrival, a man was stopped by two PCSO's. He attempted to make off and assaulted one of the officers causing minor injuries.

A 23-year-old man from Havant was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and for a public order offence. He has been released from custody on bail.

A post on Winchester Police’s Facebook page said: “Winchester City Police have just arrested a male for public order offences and assault. Witness statements and evidence is currently being gathered.

“If anybody witnessed this incident which happened near to the Covid testing station in the Discovery Centre Jewry St at approximately 13:45hrs, please contact 101 quoting reference no 44210158410.”
