FOR the 50th day, no Covid-related deaths have been reported in the Winchester district.

Since the start if the first lockdown last spring 183 people have died within 28 days of a positive test. There have been no new ones since March 3.

Covid-19 has been virtually eliminated across the district with today just two area with more than two cases in the last seven days: Winchester West and Winchester Central and South,

In both area there have been four cases in the seven days to April 16, the most recent day for which localised statistics are available.

The twelve other areas of the Winchester district have reported fewer than three cases in those seven days and are now marked white on the Government map.

Those areas are: Winchester North and Sparsholt; Winchester East; Stanmore; Oliver’s Battery and Hursley; Springvale and Itchen Abbas; Alresford; South Wonston, Sutton Scotney and Micheldever; Colden Common and Twyford; Swanmore, Hambledon and West Meon; Bishop’s Waltham and Waltham Chase; Denmead and Southwick; and Whiteley, Knowle and Wickham.

Across the Winchester district in those seven days there have been 18 cases, up four, or 29 per cent, on the previous week for a rolling number per 100,000 people of 14.4. A week ago the equivalent number was 16, down two on the previous seven days. A month ago the figures were 37, up three for a rolling 29.6 per 100,000.

The Press Association national news agency reported that figures to April 16 show 109 local authority areas out of 315 in the UK with a better record than Winchester, an increase from 27 on April 3.

No deaths have been reported by the NHS in Hampshire today.

The number of Covid deaths in the three hospitals of the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (RHCH, Basingstoke and Andover) remains at 438, with no deaths for 34 days.

Today there were only seven Covid patients in Basingstoke hospital, one at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and none in Andover, down four on previous week (12).

No Winchester schools are affected by Covid and only one across the whole of Hampshire, St Thomas More primary in Havant.

However, there are currently three cases linked to the university, according to its website yesterday, the highest number for several weeks.
