A POLITICAL party poster has appeared at the Water Garden in Winchester.

The sign reads ‘Vote Hampshire Independents’ – the party that is lead by Alan Stone, who owns the garden near the cathedral.

Last year, he submitted plans to build a house on the land, which were met with more than 1,000 public objections.

The planning battle was recognised as one of the biggest that Winchester City Council has ever seen.

His plans were refused permission by council officers and Mr Stone is yet to appeal.

Duncan Philip Stone, of the Hampshire Independent Party, is running in the upcoming local elections.

He is battling to win the St Michael Ward. The Water Garden is located in the ward.

The Chronicle is unsure whether Alan and Duncan Stone are related.

It is unclear whether the sign requires planning permission.

An application has not been submitted to the city council as of yet.
