AN ELDERLY lady died after falling at Royal Hampshire County Hospital – just before being discharged.
Elizabeth Spencer Weller, 92, was waiting for the all clear to return to her Chandler's Ford home in Monmouth Close.
But an inquest heard that she fell whilst in care and suffered a broken hip.
Ms Spencer Weller was then taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital where surgery was successfully performed.
However her health deteriorated whilst in recovery. She died at the hospital on March 26.
According to a post mortem report by Dr Bineeta Foria, the direct cause of death was a pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries.
Area coroner Jason Pegg adjourned the full hearing to July 27, to be heard at Winchester Coroner's Court.
