CITY centre road works are clogging up Winchester.

Drivers are experiencing around a 15 minute delay across the one-way system.

Essential road works have seen the closure of Southgate Street and part of the High Street.

According to Hampshire County Council, traffic is building up at the Friarsgate/Eastgate Street, and City Road/Sussex Street/Andover Road/Stockbridge Road crossroads.

A spokesperson said: "A diversion route for traffic into Winchester will be in place via Romsey Road. Please check before you travel."

The works, being carried out by SSE to improve the city's electricity infrastructure, will continue through to April 8.

The roads are expected be closed throughout this period.
