SIR: On Friday evening at 5pm, my door bell rang. I opened the door and was greeted by the masked leader of Winchester City Council who was canvassing for her political party.
I don’t know the current legal position about door-knocking for elections and I don’t want to make a party political point, but surely it is irresponsible for political organisations to be going door-to-door at present.
I am not opposed to political canvassing, but can all parties and candidates wait until the next stage of the lockdown is eased on April 12? It would be much safer for everyone and democracy won’t have suffered.
