A NEW Banksy-style mural has appeared on a community building in Winchester.

The artwork appeared on the Community Food Pantry at Unit 12, in Winnall, on Monday to the surprise of volunteers.

It is the second piece of work that artist Hendog has created in Winchester this month, the first appearing on a bridge near the Handlebar Café – it showed a figure of a child holding the line of a kite, which leads up to a real rainbow kite caught in nearby branches.

Their latest artwork is of a young child holding a sandwich representing food given to those in need at the pantry.

Alongside the mural, the artist donated a parcel containing food labelled “With Love”.

Community Food Pantry manager Elaine Chapman said that there was a rumour that the artist would paint the building, but she said "nobody knew if or when".

"With the last picture they did in the city they dedicated it to mothers, they have not made a statement on this occasion - my guess it is to help to raise awareness of the pantry, he (the child) is going to peak people's interest," Elaine said.

She added: "I really like it, it is really lovely because when you get close up to the little boy's face and it is so sweet."

Since the artwork was discovered people have been stopping by the centre to take their own photos.
