SIR: How nice it is to travel along the A31 at the national speed limit again, after the unnecessary 30mph tail-gating of the last seven weeks.

I'm sure the Hampshire Local Resilience Forum is pleased to release us from our shackles quite so quickly, but now we are left with two 100m long concrete eyesores and much traffic management detritus.

Although the Forum avoided paying most of the £2.5M set up costs and additional operational cost of £500k approx - having been supported financially by the Department of Transport, they were responsible for suggesting this traffic flow system that proved to be totally superfluous to requirements. Perhaps someone should have counted how many lorry carrying ferries run from Portsmouth per day! The lorry triage near Portsmouth would have been more than sufficient.

However as a national tax paying citizen, rather than just a Hampshire rate payer, I have still ended up out of pocket paying for a White Elephant.

In business you are rewarded for making the correct decisions, not the cautious ones.
