WINCHESTER College have adapted a tradition to celebrate the return of pupils.
The Warden’s flag was raised over the school to mark a special moment in the school’s history.
The Warden of Winchester College, chair of the school’s governors, has his own ceremonial flag which is usually only raised when he is in residence.
Yesterday morning the flag was raised by school porter, Tony Edwards, to signify a welcome return to school for pupils and staff, and in tribute to all that the school community has achieved over the past 50 weeks during the pandemic.
The flag can be seen above the Porters’ Lodge on College Street in Winchester.
A college spokeswoman said today: “To see the Warden’s flag fly over Winchester this week is a symbol of joy at the return of our staff and boys to the school, and a sign of hope that better times are on their way.”
