A MAN was more than four times the drink-drive limit when he was pulled over on a Hampshire motorway.

Miroslav Jacko was almost four and a half times the legal limit when he was stopped on the M3 near Chandler’s Ford driving a Mercedes Sprinter, a court heard.

The 30-year-old had previously been spotted travelling eastbound on the M27 by members of the public who called the police concerned about his driving.

Jacko - who works as a delivery driver for a charity - was said to have been polite when spoken to by an officer. The vehicle was also properly documented.

However, a breath test gave a reading of 155 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath -the legal limit is just 35 micrograms.

He was charged with driving with excess alcohol to which he pleaded guilty.

Defending, Michael McGoldrick said that his client was “physically shaking at the prospect of custody.”

He added that he is of good character and “works for a charity which is an indication of the lifestyle he wants to live”.

Mr McGoldrick mentioned that Jacko had been stressed and struggling with financial woes at the time of the offence on December 7 last year.

District Judge Peter Greenfield said: “Members of the public reported a van driver to the police because they were concerned about it. It’s a fast road – there is potential for serious accidents.”

He added: “Thankfully no one was hurt or injured during that incident.”

Judge Greenfield said how Jacko had travelled some distance from his home in Oxford Road, Tilehurst, near Reading, and decided “it has to be custody”.

He jailed him for eight weeks and disqualified him from driving for 37 months. Jacko must pay a £128 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
